Singapore Open 2026 Day 2: Good Outing For Indian Shuttlers
The Indian
shuttlers had a decent outing with the likes of Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, Dhruv
Kapila/Tanisha Crasto making into round of 16 of Super 750 Singapore Open 2026
played on 27th May.
HS Prannoy
stunned the 5th seeded Jonthan Christie in three thrilling games. Prannoy
began off to a good start before Christie dominated with lovely shots keeping
Indian under pressure taking a commanding 11-5 lead. After the break, it was
one-way traffic as Christie put on excellent display to win first game by
21-10.
The second
game began with Prannoy showing great fighting spirit putting Christie under
immense pressure taking 11-7 lead at the break. After the interval, Prannoy
played with aggression keeping the Indonesian struggling to win second game
comfortably at 21-12.
Both
players fought for each point right from the word go in the third game. Prannoy
fought back strongly keeping Christie under pressure with smashes and drop
shots taking a slender 11-10 lead at the break. After the interval, the match
ebbed and flowed as Christie looked to take away with 18-16 scoreline. Prannoy
showed fight to take 5 points in succession winning by 21-18 to move into 2nd
round. He will face Loh Kiean Yew who defeated Kidambi Srikanth.
The mixed
doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto defeated Wong TC and Lim CS of
Malaysia in three games. Both pairs began the first game on equal footing
before Kapila/Crasto put on dominating display with a 11-6 lead at the break.
After the interval, Wong and Lim fought back strongly to take 6 points in
succession to level scores at 12-12. Kapila/Crasto showed domination not
allowing any chances winning first game by 21-14.
It was a
closely affair in the second game with both pairs fighting for each point
before Wong and Lim took a decent lead. After the break, Kapila/Crasto fought
back strongly to put Malaysian pair under pressure. Wong and Lim showed spirit
to save match points level the score at 20-20 and then took 2 points to win 2nd
game by 22-20.
Kapila/Crasto
showed domination right from the word go in the third not allowing any chances
keeping Wong and Lim under pressure winning with 21-13 scoreline to move into
round of 16. They will face Watanabe and Taguchi of Japan.
Lakshya Sen
cruised past his Chinese opponent Lu Guangzu in two straight games. It was an
impressive performance by Sen as struggled initially before proving his worth
with 21-17, 21-15 scoreline. He will face Kulvanut Vitisdarn in round of 16.
Malvika
Bansod could not take the control of match before losing to Lin H-t of Chinese
Taipei. The first game saw Bansod putting on superb badminton display putting
Lin under pressure to win with comfortable scoreline of 21-10.
The second
game saw Bansod controlling most of the match right from the word go putting
Lin under pressure. After the break, Bansod looked to take match with 17-11
lead before Lin fought back strongly to level scores at 18-18 and then won at
21-19.
Lin upped
her game right from word go in the third and deciding game as Bansod looked
exhausted. At the mid-game break, Lin had a commanding 11-2 lead. After the
break, it was one-way traffic as Lin won by 21-12.
Kidambi
Srikanth went down fighting to Loh Kiean Yew of Singapore in three game
thriller. The first game was a closely fought as both players showed their
class. At the mid-game break, Loh took slender 11-10 lead. After the break, Loh
continued his domination taking game away with 18-15 scoreline before Srikanth
fought back strongly to level scores at 18-18. Despite Srikanth’s efforts, Loh
held his nerves to win with 22-20 scoreline.
The second
game was another closely fought affair as both players showed their skills.
Both players had chances to convert, but not able to do so. At the mid-game
break, Loh took a slender 11-10 lead. After the break, both players gave their
all, but this time around, Srikanth won with 21-19 scoreline.
The third
game started with both players fighting for each point committing unforced
errors till 8-8. Loh upped his game to take a 11-8 lead at the break. After the
interval, Srikanth tried his best, but the former world champion, Loh held his
nerves to win by 21-17 scoreline.
