Singapore Open 2026 Day 3: Good Day For Indian Shuttlers
The Indian contingent
had a decent outing with 4 out of 5 progressed into the quarterfinals of the prestigious
Super 750 Singapore Open 2026 played on 28th May.
PV Sindhu
started the day on a resounding note with dominating straight game win over R
Gunji of Japan. Both players began taking alternate points till 3-3 before
Sindhu showed her domination keeping Gunji under immense pressure. At the
mid-game break, the Indian took a commanding 11-5 lead. After the interval, it
was one-way traffic as Sindhu won with comfortable scoreline of 21-9.
This time
around, Gunji began the second game on a positive note before Sindhu came back
strongly not allowing any chances to her opponent. At the mid-game break, the
Indian took a 11-7 lead. After the interval, it was one-way traffic again as
Sindhu made light work winning by 21-12 to move into the quarterfinals. She
will face a stern test against world number 1 An Se Young.
The men’s
doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty fought back strongly to register win
over PH Yang and JH Lee of Chinese Taipei in three games. It was a solid start
for the Indian pairing who put enough pressure during the initial stages taking
decent lead before Yang and Lee showed fight. At the mid-game break,
Satwik/Chirag took a 11-6 lead. After the interval, Indian pairing played
attacking badminton making life tough for Chinese Taipei pair winning with
21-15 scoreline.
Yang and
Lee put on a dominating display in the second game with lot of unforced errors.
At the mid-game break, Yang and Lee had a commanding 11-3 lead. After the
interval, it was one-way traffic as Chinese Taipei pair won with 21-11
scoreline.
Satwik/Chirag
began the 3rd game on a positive note with smashes and attacking
shots taking 8-4 lead before Yang and Lee fought back strongly. It was a
closely fought affair as Yang and Lee took a slender 11-10 lead at the break.
After the interval, both pairs fought for each point before Satwik/Chirag held
onto their nerves to win by 21-18 moving the last 8 stage. They will face the
world number 27 Kang KX and A Tai of Malaysia.
Lakshya Sen
moved into the quarterfinals after being 2-0 ahead in the first game before
Kulvanut Vitisdarn retired due to back injury. He will face Koki Watanabe of
Japan.
The mixed
doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto reached their first
quarterfinals this year defeating Yuta Watanabe and Taguchi of Japan in a
thrilling 3 game. Watanabe and Taguchi produced a dominating performance right
from the word go putting enough pressure on Indian pairing. At the mid-game
break, Japanese pair had a commanding 11-4 lead. After the interval it was
one-way traffic as Watanabe and Taguchi won with 21-8 scoreline.
Dhruv
Kapila/Tanisha Crasto began the second game on a positive note with lovely
shots keeping the pressure on Watanabe and Taguchi. At the mid-game break,
Indian pairing took a 11-8 lead. After the interval, Japanese pairing fought
back strongly with attacking moves to level scores before Kapila/Crasto showed
spirit to win second game by 21-17.
The third
and deciding game was a closely fought affair as both pairs fought for each
point before Japanese pair took a slender 11-9 lead at the break. After the
interval, Kapila/Crasto fought back strongly keeping Japanese under pressure to
win with 21-16 scoreline to move into QF. They will face 3rd seeded Chen
TJ and Toh E W of Malaysia.
HS Prannoy
suffered heartbreak losing to local favorites Loh Kiean Yew in three games. The
first game started with both players fighting for each point before Prannoy
putting enough pressure on Loh taking 11-7 lead at the break. After the
interval, Loh showed great fighting spirit to put Prannoy under pressure and
won first game by 21-18.
It was
another closely fought start in the 2nd game before Prannoy
dominated putting enough pressure on Loh to take 11-6 lead at the break. After
the interval, Loh tried to fightback strongly before experienced Prannoy took
second game by 21-16.
The third
game started with Prannoy showing domination keeping Loh under immense pressure
in initial stages with 8-4 lead. Loh fought back strongly with aggressive
intent keeping Prannoy under pressure taking a slender 11-10 lead. After the
break, Loh showed his class with points in succession winning with 21-15
scoreline.
