Singapore Open 2026 Day 4 QF: Mixed Day For Indian Shuttlers

 

The quarterfinals day saw Satwik/Chirag & Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto enter into the semi-finals while Sen and Sindhu loss of prestigious Super 750 Singapore Open played on 29th May 2026.

The men’s doubles pair of Satwik/Chirag Shetty took the revenge of 2026 All England Badminton Championship with a thrilling three game win over Kang and Aaron Tai of Malaysia.

Both pairs began the first game on positive note with smashes and drop shots. Aaron Tai and Kang put enough pressure against the Indians. At the mid-game break, Malaysian pair had a commanding 11-6 lead. After the interval, Satwik/Chirag showed taking points before Tai and Kang maintained a decent 18-13 lead. The Indian pairing fought back strongly with 5 successive points to level the scores at 18-18. Kang and Tai held their nerves winning first game by 21-19.

The second game began with Tai and Kang keeping pressure early on Indian pair. Kang and Tai looked in a comfortable position with 8-4 lead before Satwik/Chirag took 4 points in succession to level scores at 8-8. At the mid-game break, Indian pairing took 11-9 lead. After the interval, Kang and Tai level scores again 11-11. Both pairs continued to take alternate points before Satwik/Chirag fought back strongly to take 2nd game at 21-17.

Both pairs started the 3rd game on equal footing before Satwik/Chirag put on a dominating display taking 8-4 lead. This time around, Kang and Tai took 4 points in succession to level scores at 8-8. At the mid-game break, Indian pairing took a 3 points advantage. After the interval, it was one-way traffic as Satwik/Chirag won with 21-13 scoreline to move into SF. They will face the number 1 seeded SJ Seo and Wo Kim of South Korea.

The mixed doubles pair of Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto reached their maiden 750 Semi-finals as Toh retired hurt due to knee injury. Both pairs fought for each point right from word go before Toh and Chen kept Indian pairing under pressure with a decent 3 point at the mid-game break. After the interval, Malaysian pair continued to take the lead before Dhruv and Kapila made a solid comeback to level scores at 15-15. Toh took medical timeout, but struggled as Malaysian pair led 18-15 before Toh was unable to play. They will face Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara of Japan.

PV Sindhu fought valiantly as she lost to An Se Young of South Korea in two straight games. It was a closely fought affair as both players took alternate points before An showed her class with placements keeping Sindhu under pressure. At the mid-game break, Young took a 11-7 lead. After the break, the star Indian shuttler provided some brilliant badminton before An took first game by 21-17.

An began the second game on a positive note taking an early lead before Sindhu showed fight with lovely shots. At the mid-game break, An dominated and took 11-7 lead at the break. It was one-way traffic as the current World Champion An won the second game comfortably by 21-14 to move into SF.

Lakshya Sen went down fighting to Koki Watanabe of Japan in three thrilling games. The first game saw Watanabe starting on a positive note putting enough pressure on Sen in initial stages. Sen then showed fighting spirit coming close to reducing the lead before the Japanese took a 11-8 lead. After the interval, there was some long rallies as Sen made a challenge out of it with aggressive shots to level the scores at 18-18. Watanabe held onto his nerves to win first game by 21-19.

The second game started with both players fighting for each point. It was a spirited performance by Sen keeping the pressure on Watanabe keeping momentum going. At the mid-game break, Indian took a 11-9 lead. After the interval, Sen looked in complete control to win with comfortable 21-15 scoreline.

Watanabe began the third game on a positive note with initial 5-2 lead. Sen showed fighting spirit putting enough pressure including long rallies to level scores at 5-5. It was a closely fought affair as Sen took 11-9 lead at the break. After the interval, Watanabe upped his game with star Indian shuttler struggling with cramps and won decider by 21-15.

4.      PV Sindhu lost to An Se Young (Women’s Singles)- 17-21, 14-21.
