Singapore Open 2026 Day 5: Satwik/Chirag Stun Number 1 Seed, Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Knocked Out

 

Satwik/Chirag played one of their best games knocking out the world number 1 seed SJ Seo and Kim of South Korea while Kapila/Tanisha lost in the SF of the prestigious Super 750 Singapore Open 2026 played on 30th May.

The top men’s doubles pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty stunned the world number 1 SJ Seo and Kim of South Korea in two straight games. Both pairs began taking alternate points in initial stages before Kim and Seo put enough pressure on Indian pairing keeping them under immense pressure. At the mid-game break, Seo and Kim had a commanding 11-6 lead. After the interval, it was looking that South Korean pair was taking the game away, before Satwik/Chirag showed great fighting spirit. From 9-13 and 13-17 down, Indian pairing played attacking shots to level the scores. It was a sensational performance as Satwik/Chirag won first game by 21-19.

Seo and Kim started the 2nd game on a positive note taking 3-0 lead before Satwik/Chirag showed aggressive intent putting South Korean pair under immense pressure. Seo and Kim looked to take the second game away, but Indian pairing showed fighting spirit. At the mid-game break, South Korean pair had a slender 11-10 lead. After the break, Chirag did a fault service which halted Indian momentum as Seo and Kim took 14-11 lead. Indian pair stormed back into the match with smashes keeping South Korean pair under pressure to win 2nd game by 21-18 and move into the finals. It was a stunning by Indian pairing winning against Kim and Seo. They will face the winner of Fikri/Alfian of India or Liang/Wang of China.

The mixed doubles pairing of Dhruv Kapila/Tanisha Crasto lost to Hobara/Shimogami of Japan in three games. Both pairs started the first game on even keel with alternate points before Hobara/Shimogami stepped up their attack putting pressure on Kapila/Tanisha. At the mid-game break, Japanese pair had 11-6 lead. After the interval, Shimogami and Hobara continued their domination winning the first game by 21-16.

It was a solid start by Dhruv and Tanisha in the second game playing attacking shots to put Hobara/Shimogami under pressure taking a lead. Hobara/Shimogami fought back strongly keeping Indian pairing struggling with smashes. At the mid-game break, Japanese pair took a 11-9 lead. After the interval, the match ebbed and flowed before Kapila/Tanisha maintained the pressure to win second game by 21-17.

The third game saw both pairs starting taking alternate points till 4-4. Hobara/Shimogami upped their game putting pressure on Indian and took 11-7 lead at the break. After the interval, it was one-way traffic as Japanese pair won with 21-13 scoreline.
