Thailand Open 2026 Day 3: Mixed Day For Indian Shuttlers
The Indian
shuttlers had a mixed day as PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen, Satwik/Chirag Shetty made
into the quarterfinals of the Super 500 Thailand Open 2026 played at Bangkok on
14th May.
PV Sindhu
eased past her Danish opponent Amile Schultz in two straight games. In the
initial stages of the first game, Sindhu struggled before putting on a
dominating display not allowing any chances to Schultz. At the mid-game break,
Sindhu led 11-6. After the interval, it was one-way traffic as Sindhu won with
ease by 21-13.
The second
game saw both closely fought affair taking alternate points before Sindhu
showing her class with smashes keeping Schultz under immense pressure. At the
break, Sindhu led 11-7. After the interval, Schultz fought hard, but the
experience of star Indian shuttler showed winning by 21-15 to move into
quarterfinals. She will face Akane Yamaguchi of Japan.
The top
seeded Indian pairing of Satwik/Chirag Shetty moved into the quarterfinals with
straight game win over M Haikal and Bryan Goonting of Malaysia. Satwik/Chirag looked sharp right from the
word go putting Malaysian pair under pressure winning the first game
comfortably at 21-12.
Satwik/Chirag
put on powerful display of badminton in the second game also keeping Haikal and
Goonting under pressure. At the break, Indian pairing took a commanding 11-5
lead. After the interval, Malaysian pair fought back strongly with lovely shots
giving some scare to top seeded. Despite their efforts, Satwik/Chirag won by
21-19 to move into the quarterfinals. They will face T Nomura and Y Shimogami
of Japan.
Lakshya Sen
stormed into the quarterfinals with a dominating two straight game win over X
Zhen of China. It was an impressive performance by Sen keeping momentum right
from word go and not allowing any chances to his opponent winning with 21-12,
21-13 scoreline. He will face tough the 2nd seeded Kulvanut
Vitisdarn of Thailand.
Srikanth
Kidambi lost to Ly Su of Chinese Taipei in three games. The first game saw both
players fighting for each point with lovely shots keeping the momentum. At the
mid-game break, Srikanth had a slender 11-10 lead. After the break, Su made a
stunning comeback putting pressure on the Indian to win first game by 21-16.
Srikanth showed
domination right from the word go in 2nd game not allowing any
chances for Su. At the mid-game break, the Indian had a commanding 11-2 lead.
After the interval, it was one-way traffic as Srikanth won with 21-11
scoreline.
The third
game saw closely fought affair initially before Su showed his class to put
enough pressure on Srikanth to take 11-6 lead at the break. After the interval,
the former world number 1, Srikanth showed great skills and fighting spirit to
take points in succession and level scores at 12-12.
Despite brilliant
efforts by Srikanth, Su held onto his nerves to win the decider by 21-18 to
move into the quarterfinals.
Devika
Sihag put on spirited performance as she lost to Opatniputh Pitchamon of
Thailand in two straight games. The first game was a closely fought affair as
both players fought for each point. Sihag looked impressive with her style of
play but Pitchamon held onto her nerves to win by 23-21.
Pitchamon
produced a dominating display in the second game not giving any sniff to Devika
winning with comfortable scoreline of 21-11.
Malvika
Bansod was no match to Chen Yu Fei as she suffered straight game loss. Bansod
struggled right from word go losing by 12-21, 7-21.
