Netherlands qualify for World 2020 with a crushing 8 wicket win over UAE

Netherland crushed the hosts United Arab Emirates by 8 wickets in the first play-off match played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Tuesday. United Arab Emirates captain Ahmed Raza won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start as Rohan Mustafa played a poor stroke dismissed by Klaassen in the very first over. Van Meekeren bowled with good line and length which put the UAE batsmen under pressure dismissed Rameez Shahzad and inform Muhmmad Usman to leave the hosts in tatters at 3 for 3. Glover created more pressure on UAE getting wickets of D Silva and Zawar Farid to make matter worst for the hosts. At the end of 6 overs, UAE were tottering at 14 for 5. The young Indian pair of Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty went down fighting to world number 1 Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamujlio in two straight sets by 18-21, 16-21. RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty could not start off to perfect as the World number 1 did not allow the Indian pair to play with aggressive intent and took a 7-1 lead. The Indian pair fought back strongly to make a match out of it and levelled the score at 10-10. At the interval, Gideon and Sukamujlio had a slender 11-10 lead. After the interval, the Indian pair showed great fighting spirit to level the scores at 17-17 with smart play by RankiReddy and well supported by Chirag. Thanks to a maiden T20I century by David Warner, Australia started the home season with a record 134 run win in the first T20I match played at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on Sunday. Sri Lankan captain Lasith Malinga won the toss and decided to field first. Playing his first T20I match after the ban David Warner struggled initially but Aaron Finch took on the Sri Lankan bowlers. It was an amazing start by both Australia openers as they scored 52 runs in the first 6 overs. After the power play overs, Warner and Aaron Finch took on the Sri Lankan spinners Lakshan Sandkan and Hasaranga. The Australian captain was severe and reached his fifty off 31 balls. In Group A Namibia stunned Scotland and Netherlands registered their successive win in the tournament beating Singapore. In another upset in the tournament, Jersey stunned United Arab Emirates to register their 2 nd win. PV Sindhu defeated Maria Georgia Tunjung in two straight sets by 22-20, 21-18. It was a struggle for the World Championship who was trailing 13-16 and was forced to save a match point at 19-20. It was a great start for UP Yodhas in initial minutes of the first half as raiders and defenders did a superb job. Pawan Sehrwat got the first for Bengaluru Bulls getting Sumit out. UP Yodhas all out Bengaluru Bulls in the 7 th minute as Sumit tackled Amit Sheroan to give them a 11-4 lead. It was an historic day for Indian badminton as Lakshya Sen defeated Yusuke Onodera of Japan to win his first BWF World Tour title in the finals of Dutch Open played at Almere, Netherlands on Sunday. Lakshya Sen did not get off to a great start as his opponent took a 9-3 lead. Despite Sen reducing the gap to 13-14, Onodera played with aggressive intent and showed his class to win the first set at 21-15. In the 2 nd game, both players took alternate points and were neck to neck till 12-11. Sen took 6 points in succession to race towards 18-11 lead. The young Indian shuttler Lakshaya Sen defeated Sweden Felix Burestedt in two straight sets at 21-12, 21-9 to move into the finals of the Super 100 Dutch Open played at Alemere, Netherlands on Saturday. It was a dominating performance by Sen who outplayed his Swedish opponent right from word go and made life tough for him. Both players fought for each point till 6-6. The young Indian singles player of Lakshaya Sen and RM Bhardwaj moved into the quarter finals of the Super 100 Dutch Open played at Almere, Netherlands on Thursday. It was an outstanding performance by Lakshaya Sen who defeated higher ranked Brazil player Y Coelho in three sets by 21-13,16-21, 21-10. The Indian proved his worth with great shots and put the Brazil player under pressure to win the first set easily at 21-13.
