Hong Kong Open Badminton 2025: Indian Shuttlers On Fire

  The Indian shuttlers looked in fine form as 3 of them made it into the quarterfinals of the Super 500 Hong Kong Open played on 11 th September 2025. Starting the day, Satwik/Chirag Shetty defeated qualifiers P Sukphun and Teerarastukul of Thailand in three games. The first game saw the Thailand pair playing attacking badminton as the Indian pairing struggled committing unforced errors. At the mid-game break, Thai player had 11-7 lead. After the interval, Satwik/Chirag put on an excellent display of badminton to level the scores. Sukphun and Teerarastukul won the first game comfortably at 21-18. The second game saw the Indian pairing increase the tempo putting the pressure on Thai pair. After initial stages, the Thai pair showed fight and took a slender 11-10 lead at the break.   It was a good outing for the Indian shuttlers as most of them made into the 2 nd round of the Super 500 Hong Kong Open played on 10 th September 2025. Lakshya Sen goes through to the second round with a three-set win over Chinese Taipei Wang. Wang began first game on a positive note putting pressure on Sen taking 11-7 lead at the break. After the break, Sen fought back strongly to reduce the gap. Both players fought for each point before the Indian showed fighting spirit winning first game at 22-20. The second game went on a similar script with Wang showing his aggressive mindset keeping Sen under pressure. At the mid-game break, Wang took a 11-7 lead. After the break, the Indian kept fighting before his opponent won the second game at 21-16. Both players started on an even keel in the third game before Sen fought back strongly with smashes not allowing any chances for Wang.   The Indian women’s hockey started the Asia Cup super-4 stage with a 4-2 win over South Korea played at Guangzhou, China on 10 th September 2025. It was an ideal start for the Indian team as Phalke scored from a penalty corner in the 2 nd minute. India kept piling pressure on Korean defense despite taking an early lead. South Korean finally managed to show aggression but the Indian defence looked solid and not allowed them taking a shot. At the end of the first quarter, Indian women led 1-0. Indian team started the second quarter with aggression creating a chance with Sunita but Korean goalkeeper along with solid defence denied India the goal.   The Indian Men’s hockey team beat South Korea with ease in the finals of the Hero Men’s Asia Cup 2025 played at Rajgir Sports Complex, Rajgir on 7 th September. It was a great start for the hosts as Sukhjeet Singh scored from reverse inside the D withing the first 30 seconds. Indian team kept the pressure with relentless attacks not allowing any chances for South Korean team. Jugraj Singh missed a golden penalty stroke as Korean goalkeeper made a superb save. Indian team showed their class kept piling pressure on South Korean team. At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0. Jugraj Singh was shown a green card meaning two-minute suspension.   The Indian men’s hockey team registered an emphatic 7-0 win over China in the final Super 4 stage game played at Rajgir Sports Complex, Rajgir on 6 th September 2025. Right from the word go, the Indian team put on a dominating display. Harmanpreet Singh pass to Jarmanpreet Singh and tap by Shailand Lakra in the 4 th minute gave India 1-0 lead.   The Indian women’s team showed tremendous character to a thrilling 2-2 draw against Japan in the second Group B match at Hangzhou, China on 6 th September 2025. This was India’s first real test in the competition after thrashing Thailand 11-0 in the first match on Friday. Indian team started the match on a aggressive note with 2 circle penetrations but the Japanese defence did not allow to score goals. Japan got the first penalty corner of game but it was not allowed by the Indian defence. Murayama scored the first goal for Japan with mishit shot in the 10 th minute.
