Swiss Open 2026 Day 2: Good Day For Indian Shuttlers

  It was a good day for the Indian shuttlers as 3 of them entered into the 2 nd round of the Super 300 Swiss Open 2026 played at Basel, Switzerland on 11 th March. Kiran George stunned former World champion Loh Kiean Yew of Singapore in two straight games. The first game was a closely fought affair as both players fought for each point. Loh had a slender 11-10 at the break. After the break, Loh had chance to take the first game before Kiran showed skills to win first game by 23-21. The second game also saw a closely fought affair with both players fighting for each point. It ebbed and flowed as George took the second game also with 21-19 scoreline to move into the 2 nd round.   The Indian women’s hockey team produced a well deserved 4-1 win over Wales in the final Group B match during Women’s World Cup qualifying match played at Hyderabad on 11 th March 2026. It was a great start by the Indian team as they put consistent pressure on Wales team. Sakshi Rana scored her first goal in international with a brilliant reverse shot inside the D during 7 th minute to give India 1-0 lead. A good review by Indian team resulted in a penalty corner but Udita Duhan dragflick was well defended by Wales defense. At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0. Navneet and Lalremsaimi combination shot was well saved by Wales goalkeeper Horrell Fifon. Wales got two penalty corners as the second one was brilliantly guarded by Bichu Devi.   It was a good outing for the Indian shuttlers as Satwik/Chirag and Amsakarunan/MR Arjun entered 2 nd round of Super 300 Swiss Open played at Basel, Switzerland on 10 th March 2026. H Amsakarunan and MR Arjun won their first-round match against Chinese Taipei opponents Chen Z-r and Lin Y-C in two straight games. The Indian pairing looked in complete control during the first game putting pressure on their opponents before winning it easily by 21-16. The second game saw both pairs fighting for each point. It ebbed and flowed till the end before Amsakarunan and Arjun won by 24-22 to move into the second round. They will face Chen C-k &Lin B-w of Chinese Taipei.   The hosts India and Scotland put on an exciting display of hockey with a 2-2 draw in their 2 nd Group B match during the Women’s Hockey World cup qualifiers played at Hyderabad on 9 th March 2026. Scotland got off to perfect start as the Indian goalkeeper Bichu Devi made a superb save, but was awarded a penalty corner. McEwan Heather deflection from the penalty corner in the 6 th minute gave the visitors 1-0 lead. The hosts India earned their first PC of the match soon after as drag flick went wide off the goal. It was a good performance by both teams, but Scotland ended the first quarter at 1-0.   Lakshya Sen had a memorable All England badminton championship 2026 finishing runners-up played at Birmingham that ended on 8 th March. Before this tournament, Sen struggled with his performances.   Lakshya Sen and Victor Lai were involved in a marathon 97-minute semi-finals of the prestigious All England Badminton Championship played at Birmingham on 7 th March 2026. It was a great start to the game opening with 52 shot rally with the point going to Lakshya. Both players fought for each point before Sen had a slender 11-10 lead at the break. After the break, there were long rallies tested both players stamina. Victor Lai took lead for first time at 14-13 before Sen upped his game to win the first game by 21-16.   Lakshya Sen produced a masterclass performance getting past rid of World number 6 Li Shifeng of China in two straight games during quarterfinals at the prestigious All England badminton championship 2026 played at Birmingham on 6 th March. Sen looked in sublime touch right from the word go putting enough pressure on Li with smashes and drop shots. It was a superb display of badminton by the star Indian shuttler keeping his opponent on the backfoot. At the mid-game break, Sen had a commanding 11-6 lead.
