India announces squad for Hockey World Cup 2023

 The Indian men’s hockey team announced their squad for the 2023 World Cup to be played in Rourkela and Bhuvneshwar starting on 13 th January and till 29 th January. Harmanpreet Singh will lead the squad and hopes to bring success in front of home crowd. The goalkeepers include experienced P Sreejesh and Krishna Pathak. The forwards include Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Abhishek, Sukhjeet Singh. Jarmanpreet Singh, Surender Kumar, Harmanpreet Singh, Varun Kumar, Amit Rohidas, Nilam Sanjeep comprise defenders. Varun Kumar, Harmanpreet Singh comprises drag flickers. Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Nilkanta Sharma, Shamsher Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Akashdeep Singh comprises midfielders. The Indian team would hope to perform well in home conditions as they won their only World Cup title in 1975. They have been clubbed in Group D along with England, Spain, and Wales. Indian women’s hockey team beat Spain to win FIH Nations Cup

 The Indian women’s hockey team register a close-fought win over hosts Spain in the finals of FIH Nations Cup 2022 played at Valencia on 17 December 2022. Spain looked confident with an early penalty corner, but Savita Punia produced a stunning save. Gurjit Kaur converted the first penalty corner into a goal in the 6 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead. India controlled the game with lovely possession making life tough for Spain. At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0. The second quarter began well for the Indian team with a penalty corner, but Gurjit Kaur could not convert to double the lead. Spain kept the pressure on India’s defense which eventually resulted in the penalty corner. The penalty corner goes wide off the goalpost. FIH Nations Cup 2022: Indian women register second win

 The Indian women’s hockey team registered a closely fought win over Japan in FIH Nations Cup tournament played in Valencia, Spain on 12 th December. Salima Tete scored a field goal in the 5 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead. Japan showed their aggression with some lovely attacking moves but Savita Punia produced lovely saves. It was a close affair as both teams got chances. At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0. The second quarter saw the Indian team putting pressure on Japan's defense. They earned a penalty corner, but the shot was cleared by Japan. At the end of the first half, India still led 1-0. It was another brilliant start by the Indian team in the third quarter with a penalty corner, but the shot was well wide. Japan kept the pressure on Indian defense.  HS Prannoy stunned the Olympic Champion Victor Axselen in the final Group A game of the BWF World Tour finals played in Bangkok on 9 December 2022. The Indian lost the first two matches in three thrilling games against Kodai Narakoka and then Lu Gungazou of China. It was an impressive performance by Prannoy who looked impressive with his shots putting the Olympic Champion under pressure. Prannoy had a steady start against Axselen as he stayed in touch on the scoreboard initially. Axselen looked in complete control with great smashes putting the Indian under pressure. Despite Prannoy catching up, Axselen won the first game easily at 21-14. HS Prannoy looked impressive initially in the second game. Axselen showed his aggression with an 11-8 lead at the interval. BWF World Tour Finals 2022: Top 8 players in each section

 The 2022 BWF World Tour finals was supposed to happen from 14 th -18 th December in Guangzhou but moved to Bangkok. The top 8 players from each section qualified for the prestigious tournament that will be held from 7 th -11 th December 2022. Here we look at the Top 8 players in each section Men’s Singles The lone Indian player in the fray HS Prannoy has been clubbed in Group along with Viktor Axelsen, Kodai Naraoka, and Lu Gungazu. Each player will face another once before the top two will qualify for the semi-finals. Prannoy will face first Japanese Narakoa on 7 th December, followed by Gungazu of China on the 8 th before facing Axselen of Denmark in the final Group match to be played on 9 th December.  The FIFA World Cup 2022 has seen many upsets as teams like Germany, and Belgium did not progress into the next round. Here we look at the results of league stages and line-up of Round 16 matches of FIFA World Cup 2022. Group A Netherlands finished top of Group A with 7 points. They defeated Senegal in their first match by 2-0 on 21 st November before being held for a 1-1 draw by Ecuador. Their last encounter saw them defeat hosts Qatar.
