Spain looked confident with an early penalty corner, but Savita Punia produced a stunning save. Gurjit Kaur converted the first penalty corner into a goal in the 6 th minute to give India a 1-0 lead. India controlled the game with lovely possession making life tough for Spain. At the end of the first quarter, India led 1-0. The second quarter began well for the Indian team with a penalty corner, but Gurjit Kaur could not convert to double the lead. The Indian lost the first two matches in three thrilling games against Kodai Narakoka and then Lu Gungazou of China. It was an impressive performance by Prannoy who looked impressive with his shots putting the Olympic Champion under pressure.
