Indian Open Super Series 2017 Day 2

The Indian shuttlers had a mixed day on the second day of Indian Open Super Series played at Siri Fort Sports Complex, New Delhi. In the women’s singles, Saina Nehwal and Sindhu won their respective matches, while Sameer Verma was the lone male player to qualify for the quarter-finals. In the men’s singles, K Srikanth took on higher ranked Axselen. The Denmark player dominated right from the start and won the match in two straight games 21-7,21-12. Sourabh Verma played his heart out before losing to NG KL in three grueling games. The Hong Kong player won the first game 19-21 before Siril Verma won the second game 21-14. The third set was a close affair as NG KL won the set 22-20. Sai Praneeth lost to higher ranked Chou in two straight games 14-21,16-21. Only 1 Indian male player was able to progress into the next round. In women’s singles, R Das lost to World Champion Carolina Marin in two straight games 13-21,11-21. India vs. Australia test series 2017: Which team has the advantage going into third test?

The Indian Cricket team made a strong comeback in the second test at Bengaluru winning it by 75 runs to level the series at 1-1. It was a special performance by the Indian side though the captain Virat Kohli failed again in batting.  Despite India conceding 87 runs lead in the first innings they were able to bundle out Australia for just 112 to win the match by 75 runs. This victory ensured that Indian team is guaranteed of the number 1 rank position in test matches even if they lose the remaining two test matches. In the first two test matches the Indian batting did meet the expected performance. Except for KL Rahul who contributed in three of the four innings,  Pujara in two of four innings, Rahane in only 1 innings, while other two openers Vijay in the first test and Mukund in second, also the captain failed in all four innings. Indian squad for the remaining two test matches announced

BCCI have announced 15 man squad for remaining two test matches against Australia to be played at Ranchi and Dharamshala.  Hardik Pandya has been dropped from the team. Despite Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami recovering from injuries has not been included into the squad. The third test of series will be played at Ranchi on 16 th March. India came back strongly and levelled the series at 1-1 after losing the first test match at Pune by 333 runs. Murali Vijay who did not play at Bengaluru is retained in the 15 man squad. With one week remaining for the third test match at Ranchi, Vijay appears to have recovered in time. India is going into the remaining two test matches unchanged. Mukund played in the second test match. KL Rahul played a key role in the second test match scoring 90 and 51 winning the man of the match award. On Day 2 of All England Badminton Championships, Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu progressed into the quarter finals by winning their respective matches in straight sets while HS Prannoy was knocked by seventh seed Chinese player in straight sets. In the first match PV Sindhu took on Dinar of Indonesia. The Rio Olympics silver medallist dominated the Indonesian player right from the start winning the match in straight sets 21-12, 21-4 to progress into the quarter finals. The second women’s player Saina Nehwal took on German qualifier Deprez. In the first set the German player created pressure on Saina Nehwal but the Indian player showed her experience winning the first set 21-18. In the second set Saina dominated the German player and won it in straight sets 21-18,21-10 to progress into the quarter finals. Indians at All England Badminton Championship 2017

There was some good news for Indian badminton fans as PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy progressed into the second round of All England badminton Championships played on Wednesday . In the men’s singles HS Prannoy took on Qiao Bin of China in the first round match. The match went for 1 hour and 22 minutes. After losing the first set 17-21, HS Prannoy made an excellent comeback into the game winning the next two games 22-20 and 21-19 to progress into the second round. K Srikanth, Ajay Jayaram both lost their matches . As far men’s doubles are concerned Sumeeth Reddy and Manu Attri lost in the first round in three sets 21-19,10-21 and 21-18 to qualifiers. In the women’s singles PV Sindhu defeated Mette Poulsen in straight sets 21-10,21-11 to progress into the next round. ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 schedule announced

The ICC has announced the schedule of the Women’s World Cup 2017 to be played from June 24 th to 23rd July in England. The matches will be played in four venues at Bristol County Ground, The County Ground , Derby, Grace Road, Leicester and Lords Cricket Ground. Each team will play the other team once in the group stages which will go on till 15 th July 2017. New Zealand will take on Sri Lanka in the first match of the tournament on 24 th June at Bristol. India starts their tournament with tough match against England on the same day at Derby. It promises to be a mouthwatering clash between top eight teams of the world in world cricket. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa qualified after finishing in the top four of ICC qualifying tournament held in Sri Lanka.
