China Masters 2024: Two Indian Shuttlers Progress Into Quarter Finals

  It was a disappointing outing for the Indian Shuttlers with 2 of them moved into the quarterfinals of the Super 750 China Masters played at Shenzhen Arena, China on 21 st November 2024. Out of the 6, Lakshya Sen and men’s doubles made it into the top stage of the tournament. The women’s section saw PV Sindhu suffering her first loss to Singapore Yeo Jia Min in three thrilling games. The match ebbed and flowed right from the word go before Yeo held onto her nerves to win the first game easily at 21-16. Both players looked in great shape during the second game with both players fighting for each point. At the mid-game break, the Indian led 11-8.   The top Indian Shuttlers progressed into the second round with impressive wins of Super 750 China Masters played at Shenzhen Arena, China on 20 th November 2024. It was a good performance by the Indian Shuttlers who would be looking to showcase their talent after disappointing performances during previous tournaments. Lakshya Sen took his revenge defeating Paris Olympics bronze medalist Lee Zi Jia of Malaysia in three thrilling games. Sen looked impressive in the first game with aggressive intent, winning it by 21-14. The Malaysian then produced a dominating performance in the second game to win it by 21-13 to force the match into the decider.   The Indian Women’s hockey team defended their title with a closely fought win over China in the finals of the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played at Rajgir Sports Complex, Bihar on 20 th November 2024. It was an amazing performance by the hosts who held onto their nerves before winning the match. The first move of the quarter came from India as Sunelita made a superb move inside the circle, but the Chinese goalkeeper Li Ting made a lovely save. Quichuan Deng was awarded a green card meaning a 2-minute suspension. Both teams’ defense looked solid and did not allow any chances.   The defending champions India defeated Japan in the 2 nd semi-finals of the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played at Rajgir Sports Complex, Bihar on 19 th November. Indian team began the first quarter with aggression earning a penalty corner which was superbly saved by Japanese goalkeeper Yu Kudo.   The Indian Women’s hockey team ended the league stage with a comprehensive win over Japan at Rajgir Sports Complex, Bihar on 17 th November 2024. It was a dominating performance by the Indian team right from the word go putting enough pressure on the opponents and never allowing them a chance to make a comeback into the game. Both teams started scrappy in the first five minutes of the game. After 8 minutes, India earned their two back-to-back penalty corners. Both penalty corners were brilliantly saved by Yu Kudo. With this win, the hosts moved to the top of the points table. Indian team began the first quarter with aggression earning a penalty corner with Wu Surong saving the goal. The 2 nd penalty corner was not halted properly as China made a counterattack move as Vaishnavi Phalke intercepted the shot.   The Indian Women’s Hockey displayed a dominating performance in their 3 rd match of the Asian Champions Trophy tournament played at Rajgir International Complex, Bihar on 14 th November 2024. It was a great display of hockey right from the word go putting pressure on the Thailand team. It was an ideal start for the hosts as Deepika hit a forceful reverse flick shot into the goal in the 2 nd minute to give them a 1-0 lead. Preeti Dubey hit another powerful shot inside the D giving no chance to the Thailand goalkeeper in the 9 th minute to make it 2-0 in favor of India.   Thailand could have gotten a chance, but Udita intercepted and denied them.
