Commonwealth Games 2022: Indian women thrash Pakistan to stay alive in the tournament

 The Indian women’s Cricket Team produced a rocking display as they registered to dominate display against arch-rivals Pakistan in a rain-curtailed match played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Sunday. Due to rains, the match was reduced to 18 overs a side. Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof won the toss and decided to bat first. Renuka Singh bowled a beautiful first over with a maiden over troubling Meghana Singh produced superb delivery to get rid of Iram Javed.  Muneeba Ali was not able to time the ball, but Maroof looked decent keeping the scoreboard ticking. After the initial struggle, Muneeba showed intent. At the end of the first 5 overs, Pakistan women made 26 for 1. Muneeba looked in decent touch while Maroof kept the scoreboard ticking with singles.  The Indian Team continued their winning streak as they registered a convincing win over West Indies in the first T20I match played at Brian Lara Stadium, Tabouga, Trinidad on Friday. West Indies captain Nicolas Pooran won the toss and decided to field first. Surya Kumar Yadav opened the innings along with captain Rohit Sharma. Both batters provided a flying start putting pressure on West Indies new ball bowlers. Hosein struck to dismiss Surya with simple catch to Holder.  It was an amazing effort by both teams but Australian women held their nerves in the opening match of the 2022 Commonwealth Games Cricket competition against India played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Friday. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and decided to bat first. It was an aggressive start as Smriti Mandhana put pressure on Australian bowling with positive strokes while Shafali Verma looked cautious. Mandhana fell chasing a wide delivery caught by Healy to give a breakthrough for the Australian team. Ash Gardner bowled steady lines and lengths not allowing Indian batters to score runs easily especially Yastika Bhatia and Verma. At the end of the first six overs, Indian women made 35 for 1.  The Sri Lankan Cricket Team showed their class as they outplayed their opponents Pakistan in the 2 nd Test match played at Galle International Stadium finished on 28 th July 2022. Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karauante won the toss and decided to bat first. It was an aggressive start for the hosts as Oshada Fernando looked in great touch putting the bad deliveries away for boundaries while Dimuth Karauante played with intent. He achieved this feat during the 1 st T20I match against Scotland played in Edinburgh on Wednesday. Scotland's newly appointed captain Richard Berrington won the toss and decided to field first. South African stand-in captain David Miller won the toss and decided to field first. Jos Buttler looked in great touch hitting 13 runs off Keshav Maharaj in the opening over. Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a cautious start by Shubman Gill and Dhawan hitting bad deliveries away for boundaries but respecting good deliveries.  In a historic event, Women’s Cricket is making its debut in the Commonwealth Games 2022 to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham from 29 th July. It promises to be an exciting tournament with 8 nations taking part. There are 2 groups divided into 4 teams each. India, Australia, Pakistan, and Barbados have been clubbed in Group A while Sri Lanka, England, New Zealand, and South Africa. India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Pakistan qualified due to ICC T20I women’s rankings while England qualified due to host nation. Sri Lanka made it into the CWG tournament winning the CWG qualifying tournament held from 18 th -24 th January 2022 played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  The Indian women’s hockey team would be looking to showcase their skills against top-quality nations. Right before this tournament, Savita Punia and Co finished 9 th in the recently concluded Hockey Women’s World Cup 2022 played in Spain and Netherlands. Like the men’s, England qualified as the host nation for the tournament while New Zealand made it into the tournament after winning the title during the 2018 edition on Gold Coast.  Under the captaincy of Manpreet Singh, the Indian men’s hockey team will take part in the prestigious Commonwealth Games 2022 to be played at the University of Birmingham hockey. England qualified directly due to being the host nation while Australia made it into the prestigious event as they became champions of the 2018 edition played on Gold Coast. India, New Zealand, Canada, Wales, South Africa, Ghana, Scotland, Pakistan qualified for good rankings. There are a total of 10 teams each divided into two groups.  The Indian Cricket Team continued their winning streak against West Indies as they won the 2 nd ODI match in a thrilling encounter played at Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Sunday. West Indies captain Nicolas Pooran won the toss and decided to bat first on a good batting track. It was an aggressive start by Shai Hope and Kyle Mayers not allowing Indian bowlers to settle.  The Pakistan Cricket Team chased down the highest ever fourth innings total at Galle during the first Test match against hosts Sri Lanka that concluded before the tea break on 20 th July 2022. Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karauante won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start for the hosts as the captain fell cheaply to Shaheen Shah Afridi.  The Indian Cricket Team will feature 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is matches starting from 22 nd July 2022. It will be a good test for the young Indian team as Rohit Sharma, and Pant has been rested from the ODIs. Shikhar Dhawan will lead the ODI side as there are young players that would be looking to make a mark. After the 50-over format, the Indian team will play the hosts West Indies in 5 T20Is that would prepare for the T20 World Cup to be played in Australia later this year.
