Bangladesh versus Sri Lanka 3rd ODI: All-round Sri Lanka crush Bangladesh to register a consolation win

  Thanks to a 120 by Kusal Perera and a brilliant bowling effort by Chameera, Sri Lanka registered an emphatic 97 runs win in the 3 rd One-day international played at the Sher-E- Bangla Stadium, Mirpur on Friday. Sri Lankan captain Kusal Perera won the toss and decided to bat first. It was an ideal start for Lankan openers as Gunathilka and captain Perera took the attack right from the word go and put the Bangladeshi bowler’s pressure especially Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Both openers made use of good batting conditions and hit boundaries off bad balls. At the end of the first 10 overs, Sri Lanka raced away to 77 for 0. After the field restrictions, Taskin Ahmed got the breakthrough for Bangladesh getting rid of Gunathilka taking the inside edge onto the stumps ending a strong 82 runs opening partnership.   After impressive performances in the 2 matches completed against Sri Lanka, two Bangladeshi rises during latest ICC ODI bowlers’ rankings announced by ICC on Wednesday. New Zealand's prime fast bowler Trent Boult still occupies the number 1 spot. He has not played any ODI matches so far in 2021. Bangladeshi young spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz climbs to number 2 in the bowler’s rankings. He has been exceptional in the first two ODI matches against Sri Lanka. During the first ODI, he grabbed 4 for 30 and then took 3 wickets in the second match to help Bangladesh register comfortable wins.   A superb knock by Rahim and disciplined bowling effort, Bangladesh produced a dominating performance in the 2 nd One-day international played at Sher E Bangla Stadium, Dhaka on Tuesday. With this win, Bangladesh moved top of the ICC Super League tournament. Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal won the toss and decided to bat again. Tamim got off to a cracking start with 3 boundaries in the first over of Isuru Udana. Chameera dismissed the experienced Tamim Iqbal and Shakib AL Hasan cheaply to leave Bangladesh in some trouble.   Bangladesh produced a good bowling performance to defeat Sri Lanka in the first One-day international played at the Sher-E- Bangla Stadium, Mirpur on Sunday. Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a historic moment as Tamim Iqbal became the first Bangladeshi batsmen to reach 14,000 international runs. Liton Das went without scoring as he was dismissed providing an easy catch to Dhananjaya. The Sri Lankan bowlers did not allow the experienced duo of Tamim and Shakib AL Hasan to score runs easily by bowling tight lines and lengths.   In a big announcement today, Cricket Australia has announced its schedule for the prestigious Ashes Test series starting from 8 th December 2021 to be played at Gabba, Brisbane.   It was a historic day for Bangladesh cricket as they registered their first ODI win in the Coca Cola Tri-series played at Hyderabad on 17 th May 1998. Kenyan captain Aasif Karim won the toss and decided to bat first. It was a disciplined bowling effort by the Bangladeshi bowlers to restrict a strong Kenyan batting line-up comprising of Otieno, Steve Tikolo, Maurice Odumbe, Hitesh Modi, Thomas Odoyo. Ravi Shah was the top scorer for Kenya with 52 while Hitesh Modi made 42. For Bangladesh, Mohammad Rafique picked 3 wickets giving away 56 runs. Bangladesh bowled out Kenya for 236 in 49 overs. West Indies home season for 2021 announced.

  The West Indies Cricket Team board have announced a blockbuster home season including T20I matches against South Africa, Australia and Pakistan keeping in mind the World T20I to be played from October. The home season for West Indies would begin from 10 th June with 2 Test matches and 5 T20Is against South Africa. Apart from 5 T20I matches each against South Africa, Australia and Pakistan, few test matches and ODIS would be played during this period. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many tours were called. Sri Lanka was the first country to play in West Indies including 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs, and 2 Test matches.   In the annual rankings announced by International Cricket Council today, the Indian Cricket Team proved their worth being the number 1 ranked Test side. The update includes all the matches played since May 2020 at 100 percent and those two previous years at 50 percent. Under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, the Indian Cricket Team has become the number 1 ranked Test side for the 5 th successive year from 2017 onwards. In this annual update, The Indian team gathered 2914 points from 24 matches during that period accumulating 121 points while New Zealand earned 2166 points from 18 Test matches. Virat Kohli led side dominated the inaugural ICC World Test Championship points table. They defeated West Indies, Sri Lanka, away from home, and then dominated South Africa, Bangladesh at home.   After finishing a disappointing 7 th in last year’s IPL, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings performed brilliantly at halfway stage of IPL 2021. Thanks to few good signings like Moeen Ali and others, they created a major impact. Chennai Super Kings started their 2021 journey with a loss against Delhi Capitals played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on 10 th April.
