Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara improve their rankings

The Indian test captain Virat Kohli by scoring 62 in the first innings against England at Mohali have improved their rankings in the latest ICC test batsmen rankings. The first position is still occupied by Australia captain Steve Smith who played well in the third test match against South Africa at Adelaide Oval. The Australian captain is currently at 897 points. England Joe Root also retains his second place after scoring well in the 2 nd innings against India at Mohali. Virat Kohli who scored 62 important runs in the first innings against England at Mohali has climbed to 3 rd in the latest ICC test batsmen rankings. Last week Virat Kohli was at 4 th position. New Zealand test captain Kane Williamson has dropped down to fourth because of poor performance in the 2 nd test against Pakistan at Hamilton. In the latest ICC test team rankings, India maintains the top place after an excellent performance in the ongoing five match test series against England. India are currently leading the test series 2-0 and with 2 more test matches remaining, if India could win one of the remaining two test matches then the Men in Blue will remain number 1 for long time. The second place is occupied by England who are currently trailing the five match test series 0-2. Australia too are on the same points as England. England because of decimal points, are ahead of Australia. After losing the test series against New Zealand 0-2, Pakistan has slipped down to fourth. South Africa who won the test series against Australia in Australia are currently at 5 th place. New Zealand who won the test series against Pakistan by 2-0 has climbed to sixth in the points table. 3rd test 3rd day England vs India: Five talking points

The Men in Blue are in a commanding position on the 3 rd day at Mohali. Ravichandran Ashwin 72, Ravindra Jadeja 90 and Jayant Yadav 55 useful contributions to give the hosts a respectable 134 runs after being 204 for 6. The Indian team were finally bowled out for 417. The Indian bowlers did not allow England to score runs at ease. At the end of day 3 England have lost 4 big wickets with 78 runs on the board and is still trailing by 56 runs. The 2 nd day  at Mohali was a topsy turvy affair with the match hanging in balance. After dismissing England for 283, the Indian team  lost 6 wickets, with Ravindra Jadjea and Ravichandran Ashwin at the crease things look rosy for India. The Men in Blue are just 12 runs behind England total. With the pitch expected to help the bowlers, the first innings lead would be important for either teams. Here we look at the five talking points of day 2. 1.        Early cleaning of tail Starting the day on 268 for 8, the Indian team dismissed the last 2 batsmen for the addition of 15 runs. Hong Kong Super Series 2016: PV Sindhu and Sameer Verma settle for silver

It was a disappointing day for Indian shuttler’s at the Hong Kong Super Series as both PV Sindhu and Sameer loses their respective semi-finals. PV Sindhu lost her to match Tai Tzu Ying in straight sets while, Sameer Verma fought well before losing NG KL of Hong Kong in three gruelling sets. In the women’s singles PV Sindhu took on Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei. In the first game, Sindhu started well taking the first point. Tai Tzu Ying played excellent badminton and led 3-2. The Chinese Taipei player then led 5-3 before PV Sindhu took 3 points in succession to level the score at 6-6. At the mid interval, Tai Tzu Ying led 11-8. After the interval, Tai Tzu Ying dominated the Indian player and played excellent smashes to put pressure on PV Sindhu. Tai Tzu Ying won the first set 21-15. In the second game, Sindhu started the game on a positive note taking a 4-1 lead before Tai Tzu Ying equalled at 4-4. Four Nations Hockey Tournament: India beat Malaysia to finish 3rd

India beat Malaysia by 4-1 in the 3 rd -4 th playoff match in the four nation hockey tournament played at Melbourne. It was a dominating performance by the Indian team who outplayed Malaysia in all departments. In the first quarter, India scored the first goal by Akashdeep Singh in the first few minutes to put the Malaysian team under pressure. The Men in Blue dominated the Malaysian team and earned 4 back to back penalty corners but could not convert chances into goals. At the end of first quarter India led 1-0. The second quarter was again dominated by the Indian team who dominated Malaysia who played excellent hockey and never allowed the Malaysian team a chance to score. At the end of 2 nd quarter too India still led 1-0. In the third quarter, too India dominated the Malaysian team. In the first five minutes none of the teams could score goals. After winning the toss, England choose to bat at Mohali. The Indian bowlers did a great job in the first session by picking 4 four wickets in the first session. Bairstow, Ben Stokes and Buttler were brilliant with bat. At the end of day 1, England scored 268 for 8. Here we look at the five key moments of day 1. 1.        Four wickets in the first session put pressure on England batsmen England won the toss at Mohali and elected to bat. Hong Kong Super Series 2016: Sameer Verma and PV Sindhu progresses into finals

It was a great day for Indian shuttler’s as Sameer Verma and PV Sindhu progresses into the finals of the Hong Kong Super Series. Sameer Verma took on higher seed Jan Jorgsen of Denmark and showed great fighting spirit to win the match in two straight sets while PV Sindhu dominated her opponent and won her match easily. In the men’s singles Sameer Verma took on China Open Super Series winner Jan Jorgsen of Denmark. The young Indian started the first game on a positive note taking a 7-1 lead but Denmark player fought back and reduced the gap to 6-9. Jan then took the lead for the first time at 10-9. At the interval Sameer Verma led 11-10. After the interval Jan again took 3 points in succession to take a 14-11 lead. The young Indian clawed way into the match by levelling the scores at 14-14. Four Nations Hockey Tournament: India lose to New Zealand

India lost their last league match to New Zealand by 2-3 in the four nations Hockey tournament played at Melbourne finished just few minutes ago. Despite leading, India made lots of mistakes and as a result the Indian team could not qualify for the finals. In the first quarter, both teams tried to score goals but could not convert chances into goals. India earned the first penalty corner of the match in the 15 th minute but it was well saved the New Zealand goalkeeper. At the end of first quarter the scores were 0-0. The second quarter began well for the Indian as they earned a penalty stroke. Rupinder Pal Singh scored the goal to give India a 1-0 lead. It was a mixed day for Indian shuttler’s as PV Sindhu and Sameer Verma progressed into the semi finals of the Hong Open Super Series tournament. Saina Nehwal and Ajay Jayaram lost their respective quarter final matches. In the first match of the day PV Sindhu took on Liang. In the first game, Liang began well taking a 3-1 lead in the early stages of the game. Despite trailing, Sindhu showed great fighting spirit to take a 9-8 lead. At the interval Sindhu led 11-9. After the interval, the Rio silver medallist won the first game 21-17.  In the second game , the Indian player started on an aggressive note taking a 2-0 lead. After that it was a neck to neck game as both players fought for each point. At the interval Sindhu had a slender lead of 11-10. After the interval, Sindhu had a 17-13 lead but Liang showed fighting spirit and won the second game 23-21. India will take on England in third test match at Mohali from tomorrow. The Indian team is currently the leading the series 1-0 after a thumping win over England in Vizag. The Indian team have brought in Parthiv Patel and Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the team. With the pitch expected to help the spinners, England need to play their best cricket to defeat India. It was another good day for Indian shuttler’s as PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Ajay Jayaram and S Verma progressed into the quarter finals. It was curtains for HS  Prannoy as he lost in three gruelling sets to Chong F. In the women’s singles Saina Nehwal took on Sato of Japan. In the first game Sato began well taking a 6-4 lead before the Indian played excellent badminton to reduce the gap to 7-8. At the mid interval Saina Nehwal led 11-9. After the interval Sato levelled the score at 11-11 but Saina showed her class and won the first set 21-18. In the second game, Sato dominated Saina right from the start and led 11-4 at the interval. After the interval, the Japanese player won the game 21-9 easily to force into a decider. In the deciding game, Saina played excellent badminton and led 11-8. India registered their first win of the tournament by defeating Malaysia in the four nations tournament played at Melbourne played earlier today. It was a dominating performance by India who cameback after losing their first match against Australia yesterday. In the first quarter, India dominated the play but could not convert chances into goals. At the end of the first quarter the scores were 0-0. 9 minutes into the second quarter, Nikkin Thimmah scored the goal to give India 1-0 lead. The Malaysian team tried their best to level the score but could not do it. At the end of the 2 nd quarter India led 1-0. In the 3 rd quarter, Malaysia earned their first penalty corner and Saari converted the penalty corner into goal to equalize the score at 1-1. It was a good day for Indian shuttlers on the first day of Hong Kong Open Super Series. In men’s singles Ajay Jayaram, S Verma and HS Prannoy progressed into the second round while in the women’s singles PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal qualified into second round. Sai Pranneth and men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy were knocked out. In the first match of the day Saina Nehwal took on Buranpraserturk. It was an exciting match with Saina Nehwal winning in three sets. In the first game the Thai player dominated and won the first set 21-12 while in the second and third sets Saina Nehwal showed great courage winning it 21-19 and 21-17 to progress into the second round. Four Nations Hockey Tournament: Australia beat India

Australia beat India 3-2 in the first match of the four nation’s hockey tournament played at Melbourne just few minutes ago. The Australian team was trailing but showed their fighting spirit to win the match by 3-2. In the first quarter, for the first six minutes no side was able to penetrate each other goal. India got few chances to score goals but Australian defense were solid. At the end of the first quarter the scores were 0-0. In the second quarter, India earned a penalty corner in the 4 th minute but was well saved by the Australian goalkeeper. After that India earned 2 back to back penalty corners. The BCCI have announced that Parthiv Patel will replace Saha for the third test at Mohali as Saha developed a thigh strain during the 2 nd test match at Vizag. The Indian team for the remaining three test matches was announced yesterday. Bhuvneshwar Kumar made a came back into the team after missing the 3 rd test match at Indore against New Zealand. Virat Kohli achieves his highest test rankings as he reached number 4 in the latest ICC test batsmen rankings announced earlier today. His performance in the 2 nd test match at Vizag where he scored 167 and 81 saw him rise in the rankings. He earned 97 points for his match winning performance in the second test. The Indian test captain Kohli has scored 897 runs in 9 test matches this year and hopes to perform well in the upcoming 3 test matches with England. Despite poor performances in the test series against South Africa, Steve Smith occupies the top place with 897 points.
