Indian women versus England women 2nd ODI: England seal the series with a good win

  Thanks to a superb partnership between Sophie Dunkley and Katherine Brunt, England women sealed the series in the 2 nd ODI played at Taunton on Wednesday.   England captain Heather Knight won the toss and decided to field first. It was a steady start by the Indian openers as Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana played with intent putting England bowlers under pressure. Shafali was dropped by Winfield at mid-off. After the initial spell by Shurbsole and Brunt, Knight bought Ecclestone into the attack. At the end of the first 10 overs, Indian openers put 48 runs. Kate Cross got the opening breakthrough for England getting rid of Smriti Mandhana taking the inside edge onto stumps. Mandhana and Verma put on 56 runs laying a strong foundation for a big total.   The Euro 2020 Round of 16 matches saw some brilliant action with top teams like Portugal, Germany, Netherlands, France, and Sweden being knocked out. Teams like Ukraine, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Denmark showed great fighting spirit to reach the quarterfinals stage. After losing the first two matches against Finland and Belgium, Denmark proved their worth defeating Russia by 4-1 to book a place in the round of 16 against Wales. It was a dominating performance by Danish side who outplayed Wales played on 26 th June at Johan Cruyff Arena, Amsterdam. Denmark dominated the possession before Dolberg scored a brilliant goal in the 27 th minute to give them a 1-0 lead. Both teams played attacking football but could not convert anything.   The England women produced a dominating display in the 1 st One-day international match against India played at County Ground, Bristol on Sunday.   England women captain Heather Knight won the toss and decided to field first. The debutant Shafali Verma showed great intent putting Brunt and Shurbsole with boundaries. To hit another big shot, Verma provided a simple catch to Shurbsole. Smriti Mandhana and Punam Raut failed to rotate the strike. After the sustained pressure by England bowlers, Shurbsole produced a superb delivery getting rid of Mandhana. At the end of the first 10 overs, Indian women ended at 27 for 2. After the field restrictions, Raut and Mithali Raj could not hit boundaries as England bowlers kept on the pressure.   New Zealand created history as they became the inaugural ICC Test Championship defeating India on the reserve day at Ageas Bowl, Southampton on Wednesday. Starting on the overnight score of 64 for 2, India was dealt with two huge blows as Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara could not contribute much to the team’s cause dismissed by Kyle Jamieson. Rishabh Pant was given a reprieve by Tim Southee at slips but did not change his style of play taking on the Kiwis bowlers. On the other hand, Rahane looked solid hitting the bad balls away for runs.   The fifth day’s play saw some exciting action as both teams fought for each run played at Ageas Bowl, Southampton on Tuesday. Starting on the overnight score of 101 for 2, it was a remarkable bowling performance by the Indian pacers including Bumrah and Ishant Sharma. Mohammed Shami came into the bowling and troubled the experienced duo of Taylor and Williamson. After the first drinks break, a superb catch by Shubman Gill resulted in the wicket of Taylor. The match started half hour late due to a wet outfield. Starting on the overnight score of 146 for 3, Kyle Jamieson and Trent Boult began off brilliantly bowling tight lines and lengths not allowing Rahane and Kohli to score runs easily.   Thanks to a superb effort by Sneha Rana, Shikha Pandey and Taniya Bhatia, India pulled out a remarkable draw on the fourth and final day of the one-off Test match played at County Ground, Bristol on Saturday.     The Indian and New Zealand announced their 15-man squad for the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship finals to be played from 18 th June at Ageas Bowl, Southampton. Both India and New Zealand have performed brilliantly in the inaugural edition of the Test Championship started in August 2019. The Indian Team won all their series at home defeating Bangladesh, South Africa, and England. Their only loss came against New Zealand in New Zealand losing 0-2. They performed brilliantly defeating West Indies away from home. After being bundled out for 36, under the captaincy of Rahane, the Indian team registered a historic 2-1 win over a strong Australian side especially at Gabba, Brisbane. Starting on the overnight score of 258 for 7, Mark Wood looked in cracking form right from the word go putting pressure on Boult and Henry with 5 boundaries.   The Board of Cricket Control of India have announced their squad for the 3 ODI and 3 T20Is matches against Sri Lanka starting from 13 th July 2021. With the Indian senior team featuring in World Test Championship finals and England tour, Shikhar Dhawan has been appointed as the captain while Bhuvneshwar Kumar named as the vice-captain for the tour.
