BWF World Championship 2019: PV Sindhu and Sai Praneeth medals great for Indian badminton

PV Sindhu defeated Nozomi Okuhara in two straight sets by 21-7, 21-7 to become the 1 st Indian shuttler to win a gold medal at the World Championships played at Basel, Switzerland played on Sunday. After losing 2 successive finals in 2017 and 2018, Sindhu looked in good shape. With the help of foreign coach Kim Jyun-Hung, the gold medallists improved her stroke play and did a lot of strength training which helped her in winning long rallies. The Indian started the tournament on a confident note beating Pai Yu Po in straight games by 21-14, 21-15. The top Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, and Kidambi Srikanth moved into the round of 16 of BWF World Championships 2019 played at Basel, Switzerland on Wednesday. The 2-time World Championship silver medalists PV Sindhu had no problems of defeating Pai Yu Po of Chinese Taipei in two straight sets by 21-14, 21-15 to move into the round of 16. Sindhu who took time to settle played with aggressive intent and put pressure on Pai Yu Po. The Indian then took control and won the first set at 21-14. India beat Japan in a closely game to win Olympic Test event.

After the Indian men's team cruised to an easy victory over New Zealand by 5-0, it was the turn for the Indian women's team as won a closely fought match against Japan by 2-1 in the summit clash at Olympic Test event at Tokoyo on Wednesday.  In the 1 st quarter, the Indian team dominated the first 10 minutes. Navneet Kaur gave India the lead with a fine finish in front of the goal. Japan levelled the score in the next minute with a brilliant field goal by Shimizu. At the end of the 1 st quarter, the scores were level at 1-1. The second quarter the Indian team having few chances in the first few minutes with the likes of Vandana Kataria and Navjot but could not produce goals. It was a good day for the Indian shuttler’s as Sai Praneeth and HS Prannoy moved into the 3 rd round of the BWF World Championship 2019 played at Basel, Switzerland on Tuesday. HS Prannoy stunned former World Champion Lin Dan in three games by 21-11, 13-21, 21-7 to move into the 3 rd round. It was a dominating display by the Indian who never allowed Lin Dan to play his natural game and led 11-5 at the interval. The Indian continued to dominate the Chinese and won the 1 st set at 21-11. Sai Praneeth defeated Jason Anthony Ho-Shue of Canada in two straight games 21-17, 21-16 to move into the 2 nd round. Haryana Steelers defeated Patna Pirates by 35-26 in the 2 nd match of the day played at Patliputra Sports Complex, Patna on Wednesday. Patna Pirates took the first point of the match with a raid point from Pardeep Narwal. It was a dominating performance by Haryana Steelers team who raided well and tackled Patna Pirates. The match between Tamil Thailvas and UP Yodhas ended in a 28-28 thrilling tie played at Patliputra Sports Complex, Patna on Wednesday. In the first half, the start was not great as both of raids were empty. Tamil started the match on a great note as they earned a tackle and raid point.   Rishank Devadiga got the first point for UP with a touchpoint and then with a tackle point to level the scores at 2-2.   with a touchpoint.
